Mining giant BHP Group (BHP) has appointed Jessica Farrell as President North America, with the role taking effect on July 1, 2026.
Farrell currently serves as Vice President Innovation at BHP, a position she has held as part of the company’s broader executive structure.
In addition to her new role, Farrell will act as interim President, South America, until a permanent appointment is made through a formal recruitment process.
Prior to her Vice President Innovation role, Farrell served as Western Australia Nickel Asset President, building a strong operational track record within the company.
She brings more than 20 years of experience holding senior roles at BHP, making her one of the mining group’s most seasoned internal leaders.
The appointment is part of a wider leadership restructure that also sees Brandon Craig take over as Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, following an announcement made on March 18.
Incoming CEO Craig commented on the changes, saying “These new appointments ensure that we continue to build organisational capacity, with the right mix of skills, experience and perspectives to deliver BHP’s strategy and pursue our growth agenda.”
Craig also explained the rationale behind splitting the Americas leadership structure, stating “The President Americas role will be split into President North America and President South America. This will allow a greater focus on each of these regions.”
From September 1, Edgar Basto, the current Chief Operating Officer, will remain on the Executive Leadership Team and report directly to the CEO in a new capacity as Chief Enterprise Performance Officer.
Geraldine Slattery will continue serving as President Australia and will take on added responsibility for Copper South Australia, consolidating all Australian operating assets under her leadership.
The restructuring signals a clear strategic intent by BHP to sharpen regional focus across its global operations as it pursues an ambitious growth agenda.
BHP shares closed Friday’s regular trading on the Australian Securities Exchange at A$58.67, up 0.26 percent.
