United Airlines Holdings (UAL) has announced a partnership with DISH Network to stream live college and professional football games directly to passengers on Starlink-enabled seatback screens.
The service is launching this week across more than 200 Starlink-equipped United mainline aircraft, bringing live sports to tens of thousands of passengers per day.
DISH is delivering the live channels through its OnStream platform, which is designed to provide entertainment content for the aviation industry and beyond.
DISH operates as a subsidiary of EchoStar Corp. (ECHO), giving the partnership significant broadcast infrastructure and distribution capabilities behind the scenes.
Passengers will have access to live broadcasts from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, NFL Network, and Thursday Night Football on Prime Video.
The football streaming service will remain available on domestic United flights through the big game in February, covering the full arc of both the college and professional seasons.
United expects the service to be available on nearly 700 aircraft by February 2027, representing a major expansion of its in-flight entertainment footprint.
Starlink Wi-Fi is free for United MileagePlus members across every class of service, and the satellite internet system is currently active on more than 560 United mainline and United Express aircraft.
Beyond live sports, United is aggressively expanding its broader seatback entertainment offering, with plans to install screens on up to 1,000 aircraft by the end of 2027.
New aircraft are being fitted with 27-inch, 4K OLED seatback screens, giving passengers one of the most advanced in-flight viewing experiences available in commercial aviation today.
Passengers can already choose from more than 2,500 hours of entertainment content, including programming from Apple TV, HBO Max, A24, and Spotify.
The move signals United’s broader strategy to use connectivity and entertainment as competitive differentiators as airlines continue to battle for premium passenger loyalty.
On the Nasdaq, United Airlines shares closed up 1.26% at $107.64 on Thursday, reflecting positive market sentiment around the announcement.
