Wave Life Sciences Ltd. (WVE) has named Monika Vnuk as its new Chief Business Officer, adding a seasoned industry executive to its senior leadership team.
The clinical-stage biotechnology company, which focuses on RNA medicines, made the announcement on Tuesday, signalling a push to strengthen its business and corporate strategy functions.
Vnuk will join Wave’s executive team and take charge of business development, corporate development, and alliance management across the organisation.
She brings an extensive track record in life sciences deal-making and partnering, having held senior roles at some of the industry’s most prominent organisations.
Most recently, Vnuk served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Partnering and Business Development at Sanofi, where she oversaw licensing, investments, and alliances.
Before her time at Sanofi, she held a position at Blackstone Life Sciences, further broadening her experience across both investment and operational aspects of the sector.
Vnuk also spent more than 10 years at Pfizer in senior business development roles, building a reputation as a skilled negotiator and deal-maker in the pharmaceutical space.
Among her most notable accomplishments at Pfizer was leading the landmark partnership with BioNTech for the global development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
Earlier in her career, Vnuk worked in investment banking at Bank of America and at Oxford Bioscience Partners, giving her a strong financial foundation that complements her scientific industry experience.
Investors reacted positively to the news, with WVE shares trading 2.44 percent higher at $4.3586 on the Nasdaq following the announcement.
The appointment reflects Wave Life Sciences’ intent to accelerate its business strategy as it advances its pipeline of RNA-based therapeutic candidates through clinical development.
With Vnuk’s blend of investment banking, venture, and large pharma experience, Wave appears well-positioned to pursue new partnerships and corporate opportunities in the competitive RNA medicine space.
