Our Classroom Climate (OCC), is the UK’s first climate education programme with carbon capture and air quality audit. OCC launched the new classroom climate project with support from Fora, a premium workspace provider that forms part of The Office Group. Fora has sponsored a number of schools to join the programme.
The classroom climate project offers enrolled primary schools across London creative and fun ways to learn about climate change, sustainability and essential global issues – while fully supporting the English national curriculum.
Designed as the perfect companion programme to the DfE’s sustainability & climate change strategy, it educates and inspires pupils and schools on the importance of sustainability in their local communities and on the international stage.
The project is supported by leading organisations including National Institute of Education, Times Education, The Green Party, Connex Education, as well as senior educators and climate scientists.
Fora is sponsoring seven schools across London to provide access to the programme. The launch event for teachers was also hosted at Fora’s Spitalfields workspace on May 8th.
Mark Douglas, Founder of the Our Classroom Climate education program, commented:
“We were delighted to be able to support so many schools across London with the help of Fora, who has been championing the need to raise awareness of both Climate Change and Air Quality for some time. To be joined and supported by leading organisations, senior educators and climate scientists shows just how vitally important this topic is, and needs to be taught across all primary schools in the UK.”
“Having our programme described as “the best climate change program for primary schools in the UK” was very humbling and a testament to the many educators and scientists that have been part of the journey. The real joy, however, was seeing the teachers so genuinely enthused and excited about going back to school to start sharing with the children (plus capture Carbon and clean the air in classrooms). While some schools may be struggling financially, we are hugely grateful to companies like Fora for their generosity, support and genuine commitment to adding social value.”
Katrina Larkin, Chief ESG Officer at The Office Group, said:
“Fora is proud to be sponsoring several schools as part of the OCC’s new classroom climate project. This programme brings together so much of what is important to us and is a fantastic way to help young people learn about how climate change is affecting our own environments, while also empowering them to engage with global issues.
“Health and wellbeing are central to Fora’s values, and, in keeping with OCC’s exploration of indoor air quality, we are leading the way to create an exceptional indoor environment when it comes to providing healthy, safe, and productive spaces, with three of our workspaces recently receiving AirRated’s Gold standard.
“As we continue to focus on reducing Fora’s environmental impact, we are proud to be supporting the OCC and championing wider climate action in the communities around us.”
