Warren Buffett (BRKA/BRKB) Sets Eight-Year Timeline To Offload All Berkshire Shares

Warren Buffett has announced an accelerated plan to give away his entire stake in Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA) (NYSE: BRKB) within approximately eight years.

The legendary investor and former CEO of Berkshire currently owns about 188,000 Class A shares of the conglomerate he built over five decades, along with more than 1,100 Class B shares.

Those holdings place Buffett’s net worth at approximately $150 billion, cementing his position as one of the wealthiest individuals on the planet.

Buffett first pledged in 2006 to gradually donate all of his Berkshire stock to philanthropic foundations, a commitment he has steadily honored for two decades.

In a Berkshire news release dated July 14, Buffett stated directly, “My goal is to dispose of all of my Berkshire shares within about eight years.”

The announcement marks a notable acceleration of that original giving timeline and also introduces significant changes to which organizations will receive his wealth.

Buffett confirmed that his remaining shares will be donated to four foundations, three of which are run by his children and one dedicated to his late wife, Susan Thompson Buffett.

One major shift in this new plan is that Buffett is skipping his annual donation to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a charity he has long supported.

According to reports in The Wall Street Journal, the change is connected to Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) founder Bill Gates’ interactions with the disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Buffett is awaiting the Gates Foundation’s review of its past interactions with Epstein before he considers resuming any additional gifts to the organization.

The decision reflects Buffett’s cautious and deliberate approach to philanthropy, ensuring his legacy donations align closely with his personal values and standards of accountability.

Berkshire Hathaway remains one of the most closely watched conglomerates in global markets, and any movement involving Buffett’s personal stake draws significant attention from investors worldwide.

The eight-year disposal window gives markets a clear framework for understanding how Buffett’s philanthropic transfers may influence the broader ownership structure of Berkshire going forward.
