Starbucks (SBUX) Breaks All-Time Sales Record With Unicorn Frappuccino Return

Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) has achieved the biggest weekend in its corporate history, driven by the limited-time return of its iconic Unicorn Frappuccino beverage.

The coffee giant sold more than 2 million of the pink blended beverages in North American company-operated locations, making Saturday the company’s biggest Saturday sales day ever.

CEO Brian Niccol addressed the milestone directly in a press release, highlighting the extraordinary consumer response to the fan-favorite drink’s comeback.

The Unicorn Frappuccino, originally released in 2017, became a cult phenomenon almost immediately, generating massive social media buzz and long lines at locations worldwide.

The colorful beverage is made of milk, ice, and mango-flavored syrup, topped with a sour, tangy blue drizzle and whipped cream, and dusted with sweet-and-sour blue powder.

Starbucks encouraged customers to “join in the fun,” instructing them to “come dressed as your best unicorn-inspired self,” and fans responded enthusiastically across the globe.

As noted in the company’s press release, “In coffeehouses across the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East, customers came in with friends and family to experience a moment of nostalgia and joy. They shared photos, posted videos, and made memories.”

The record-breaking weekend builds on an already impressive recovery trajectory for a company that endured several consecutive quarters of declining same-store sales and falling foot traffic in prior years.

In its fiscal 2026 third quarter ended June 28, Starbucks generated net revenue of $9.3 billion, with comparable store sales rising 7.9%, driven by a 4.2% increase in transactions and a 3.5% increase in the average ticket.

Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.85 for the quarter, representing a striking 70% increase that significantly exceeded analyst expectations heading into the report.

Following those results, Starbucks raised its full-year 2026 forecast, now guiding for U.S. and global comparable store sales growth of 6% or more, up from its prior forecast of 5% growth issued just three months earlier.

The net revenue figure of $9.3 billion reflected a 1% year-over-year decline, largely attributable to the divestiture of Starbucks’ operations in China rather than any underlying weakness in the core business.

The Unicorn Frappuccino strategy, executed as a limited-time offering, proved to be a masterstroke in driving traffic, excitement, and record sales in a single weekend period.

However, the company acknowledges that sustaining momentum will require continued execution, as the same promotional lever cannot realistically be pulled again in the near term.

Starbucks currently trades at approximately 34 times next year’s expected earnings, a premium valuation that reflects growing investor confidence in the brand’s ongoing recovery under current leadership.
