Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) has surged 18% over the past month, giving shareholders reason for optimism after a turbulent start to its public trading life.
Shares had previously fallen as low as $104.83 before climbing back above the initial public offering price of $135, a level that required considerable momentum to reclaim.
Based on the September 4 closing price of $147.95, a $10,000 investment in SpaceX would yield just over 67 shares through fractional investing.
Of the 41 analysts who cover the stock, the median 12-month price target is $216, according to CNN, representing a potential gain of roughly 46% from that closing price.
If SpaceX reaches that median target, a $10,000 investment made at $147.95 would grow to approximately $14,599 within the next year.
On the downside, the lowest analyst price target in that group sits at $75, which would turn a $10,000 investment into a loss of approximately $5,069.
Price targets do not guarantee any particular outcome, but they provide investors with a framework for weighing risk against potential reward when evaluating a stock.
SpaceX is not currently profitable, and its 2026 second-quarter earnings showed a net loss of $541 million, though that figure narrowed from a $1 billion loss reported in the same period the prior year.
The company is forecasting a $26.5 trillion total addressable market in AI infrastructure, positioning itself as a major player in the next generation of data center development.
SpaceX has already struck deals with both Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Anthropic to rent out compute capacity, with those two contracts potentially generating $26 billion in annual revenue, compared to the $18.7 billion in revenue SpaceX recorded for all of 2025.
Looking further ahead, SpaceX plans to launch over 1 million satellites to serve as orbital data centers, with launches expected to begin in 2028.
If those plans come to fruition and SpaceX captures a meaningful share of its projected $26.5 trillion TAM, the analyst high-end price target of $800 could become more realistic over the longer term.
For now, the stock is best suited to aggressive investors comfortable with ongoing losses and the execution risks that come with an ambitious, capital-intensive business model.
