Apple (AAPL) iPhone Duo At $1,999 Could Propel The Company Into The $5 Trillion Club Alongside Nvidia (NVDA)

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is rolling out a pair of major iPhone launches this season, and analysts believe the momentum could push the company to historic market cap territory.

The new iPhone 18 arrived on Friday, but Apple is saving its most ambitious product for a late October debut that could reshape investor sentiment entirely.

The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable smartphone, is set to launch on October 23, with pre-orders beginning one week earlier at a starting price of at least $1,999.

That price tag is $800 higher than the iPhone 18 Pro released over the weekend, making the Duo the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever brought to market.

Apple stock has surged more than 40% over the past year, outpacing Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), which itself posted a gain of 26% in the same period.

Those gains have placed Apple within 2% of a $5 trillion market cap, and less than 10% away from overtaking Nvidia as the market’s most valuable company by market capitalization.

Apple will close out fiscal 2026 at the end of this month, generating double-digit revenue growth for the first time in five years, fueled by a strong first three quarters through the end of June.

Analysts already see Apple revenue climbing 10.5% next year, which would mark the first time since fiscal 2012 that the company has delivered back-to-back years of double-digit revenue growth.

Critics may point to Apple’s history of premium-priced misfires, including the Vision Pro headset with its $3,699 price tag, as well as the Lisa, Power Mac G4 Cube, and HomePod, which failed to find broad audiences.

The iPhone Duo, however, occupies a fundamentally different category, since leading wireless carriers are expected to subsidize the handset through multi-year contract deals, a dynamic that was never available for Apple’s previous high-priced stumbles.

The foldable iPhone’s passport-sized profile when folded is expected to win style points and attract a premium customer base willing to invest in the form factor.

The key risk remains product quality, as foldable screens across the industry have historically been vulnerable to cracking and premature wear that can undermine consumer confidence.

Apple has followed a predictable cycle for more than a decade, delivering double-digit revenue growth in years tied to revolutionary iPhone launches, followed by slower growth during evolutionary update cycles.

If the iPhone Duo lands without a major hardware flaw and demand holds, Apple’s run at the $5 trillion club could come sooner than even its most optimistic supporters have anticipated.
