Entain PLC (LSE:ENT), the owner of Ladbrokes, has suffered what JP Morgan describes as an unjustified 45% share price decline this year despite improving business fundamentals.
The major US investment bank reiterated its overweight rating on the gambling group, pointing to strengthening momentum in its core UK online business as a key reason for optimism.
JP Morgan also highlighted a stabilising position in the United States as a further support for the company’s outlook heading into the final quarter of 2026.
Brazil’s move toward a full gambling ban has raised investor concern, but the bank characterised the regulatory shift as a manageable headwind for Entain rather than a structural threat.
JP Morgan estimates the Brazilian regulatory change will reduce earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation by approximately 2.5%, but noted the impact is already reflected in its forecasts.
The broker also views the Brazilian first-round election as broadly supportive and sees the regulatory change as a potential clearing event that could remove a significant source of uncertainty for the stock.
A clearer medium-term path to cash flow generation and lower leverage was identified by JP Morgan, supported by the roll-off of payments to HM Revenue and Customs and a potential sale of Entain’s stake in its central and eastern European operations.
The bank said those developments could serve as meaningful catalysts for the shares and unlock value through a sum-of-the-parts valuation, though it cautioned that precise timing remains uncertain.
JP Morgan placed Entain on a positive catalyst watch ahead of the company’s third-quarter trading update scheduled for 15 October, signalling confidence that near-term news flow could support the share price.
The bank retained its overweight rating while cutting its December 2027 price target to 965p from 1,050p, reflecting the Brazil impact and a higher discount applied to the equity because of regulatory risks.
Analyst Estelle Weingrod said the lower target still left scope for significant upside from current levels, with the broker seeing value in Entain as operational momentum improves and deleveraging becomes more visible.
Entain shares have been under consistent pressure throughout 2026, making the stock one of the more notable underperformers in the European gambling sector during the period.
